Bridal Checklist

As any former bride can attest, planning a wedding is one of the most challenging events she’ll undertake in her lifetime. Having a bridal checklist is not merely helpful, it’s survival.

While Miracle Mile in Coral Gables can help as the number one location for bridal shops in Miami, creating a list and structured timeline is half the battle.

One Year Before

  • Budget first – One of the first questions vendors will ask the bride is, “How much are you looking to spend?” Total budget and individual vendor budgets are the final word.
  • Start a wedding folder – Designate one place for all notes, print-outs, estimates, ideas, and doodles.
  • Reserve date and venue – Since all other planning is dependent upon these two factors, it’s crucial to nail them down first.
  • Begin researching major vendors – Photographers, bands, florist, caterers—many vendors (especially the good ones) book up to a year in advance so it’s never too early to start calling around.
  • Hire officiant and wedding planner – The latter can help with many of these pre-planning To-Dos.
  • Start drafting your guest list and choose the bridal party – Whether it’s an intimate gathering or 200+ party, the guest list and bridal party will be one of the most difficult decisions. Make it early!

Eight Months Before

  • Hire major vendors – Photographer/videographer, entertainment, and catering should be locked down—specifics can come later.
  • Say yes to the dress – Most bridal boutiques will request three fittings to allow for alterations.
  • Create wedding website – Include event information for guests along with a block of hotel rooms (which should be reserved around this time as well).

Six Months Before

  • Purchase invitations – Plan to send them at least three months in advance, longer if many people will be traveling from out of state. Send save-the-dates now.
  • Start planning honeymoon – Make travel arrangements and ensure passports are up to date, if needed.
  • Shop bridesmaids’ dresses – Like the wedding gown, they will take considerable time to be shipped and altered.
  • Book florist, wedding day transportation, and technical vendors – Chairs, lighting, portable toilets, etc.—don’t neglect the structural necessities.

Four Months Before

  • Book rehearsal dinner venue – Same goes for post-wedding brunch venue.
  • Order cake – Finalize tastings and pay deposit for cake.
  • Purchase wedding shoes and book hair and makeup appointments – Now is the time for trial appointments and initial fittings.

Three Months Before

  • Finalize vendor details – From the menu and flowers to the officiant’s reading and music, brides should be wrapping up the specifics.
  • Purchase rings, undergarments, and party favors.

Two Months Before

  • Finalize ceremony details and event schedule with all vendors.
  • Have a bachelorette party!

One Month Before

  • Obtain marriage license – Allow one week to complete the process.
  • Confirm final details with vendors – Pay as many as possible in advance.
  • Finalize RSVPs – Assign seating arrangements.
  • Write vows.
